Dan-the only one of Potters three young stars who acted professionally prior to been cast as an underage wizard - has channelled his burgeoning maturity into another notable role, starring in this years London production of Equus. (You may not have seen the play, a controversial physcodrama about a troubled boy who blinds six horses, but it's a pretty safe bet you didn't miss the brooding half-naked promotional pictures) "I hope that role will allow people to see me as something else" Dan says carefully of his critically acclaimed turn - which he may reprise when the play transfers to Broadway in 2008. "Harry Potter will be the character that got me famous, and will probably be the one that people remember first, but i like to think that if i work hard enough and do as many things as i can, there will eventually be others that stick in their mind aswell."
Emma, unlike Dan, has so far done very little career-wise to distance herself from Hermione -but to borrow a Britishcism - she's not too fussed about it. "I've read script's," the actress exclaims "but nothing's particulary grabbed me, and i don't want to do something just for the sake of doing it. It would have to be a film i'm really passionate about, because i've got so much else going on in my life."
The seventeen year old still attends an all-girls school in her native Oxford, where she studies dance, art, and literature, her favourite. (She recently found herself reading E.M.Forsters A Room with a View, in a makeup chair next to fellow Phoenix player Helena Bonham Carter who starred in the 1986 film adaptation. "Sometimes these two completely different areas of my life collide," Emma says with a laugh "Quite occasional but quite surreal when they do". And she plans to got o university after she's finished her stint at Hogwarts, not only does Emma sincerely love learning, she adores the normality of been in school.
Her interest in what most teens take for granted extends to her love life aswell " I really like it when i'm introduced to someone through a friend," Emma says " I know it sounds weird, but i like to know where someone comes from, who they are, where they live, and what their part of." Of course, either of Emma's cute co-stars could easily satisfy those conditions, but all three swear, repeatedly that there's never been any onset intriue between any of them. " It's hard to imagine a place with less romance really".
Dan insists "I mean, when we were all turning thirteen, fourteen, there was a bit of that going on. We all fancied the hell out of each other. But no, not anymore."
Rupert when pressed for specifics, utters only a unconvincing "I can't quite remember now." A typical example: Asked if he has any particular vacation plans for the period immediately after Phoenix wraps, eh responds "Probably, yeh. No plans at the moment.
