ballet shoes(2007)
See an indepth look HERE.
Ballet Shoes was Emma's first film that wasn't Potter, and was released Christmas Eve 2007. It follows the story of 3 girls and them achieving their ambitions in life. Emma's character Pauline wants to be an actress. Her sisters want to fly a plane, and become a ballet dancer.
Having never read the book i came at the film with fresh eyes.
Pauline is talented, though self centred and very dramatic which Emma carries off very well. Emma is simply mesmerising when reciting A Midsummers Night Dream for a role as Alice in Wonderland.
Emma commands the stage in this film, personally i think at some point i would love to see her on stage,
When Pauline gets a motion picture she struggles but finds her footing. Though the character is a bit of a brat she cares deeply for her family which is endearing to watch. The Ballet scenes are done beautifully. Would this be considered a Christmas film? I think so, it's a lovely film for both adults and children.
The ending is hilarious with Gum, played brilliantly by the late Richard Griffiths, and i loved the subtle romance and heartfelt feel of this film. Emma brings her character to life beautifully and her potential to go beyond Potter was definitely shown.
The whole cast were fantastic and every girl and boy should watch this.
