my week with mARILYN (2011)
See indepth look HERE.
This is one of my favourite films though not because Emma is in it, though that's part of it but because it's about another actress which i admire very much, the great Marilyn Monroe.
The film is set in the time Marilyn was filming the Prince and the Showgirl with Laurence Olivier, a film i'm yet to see (finding some of her films has proved difficult).
Though this film does dive into Marilyn's shall we say mental state, it's very tasteful and keeps a reality about it. Unlike Netflix Blonde that to me disgraced her.
So many incredible actors , Michelle Williams shines as Marilyn.
Lucy is spunky, well written and though the part is small Emma gives the character a memorable part.
"They like to keep her doped up, makes her easier to control." That line didn't sit well with me, and its true that Arthur Miller had wrote thing's about Marilyn wanting to make money, which she disapproves of. If anything it shows just how even the closet to her would see opportunity.
The help for people with mental health issues was poor back then, it's not much better now, but putting my own personal experiences aside, this film makes clear how that hel[ was not really reached. Her own husband abandoned her when she was vulnerable...it can be a hard watch.
I loved the character of Lucy, she doesn't put up with anything and put's Colin in his place after he messes her about.
This film is heartbreaking, funny and real. As i said Michelle Williams embodies Marilyn one of the best portrayals i've ever seen.
An underrated film that has to be watched to eb believed. If your an Emma Watson fan, or a Marilyn Monroe fan or both, give it a go.
