NOAH (2014)
See in depth look here.
Ok, so Noah was released in 2014 and is based on the story of Noah's Ark from the Bible. Darren Aronofsky created a dark, surreal world where even the Ark itself blends and unlike the happy boat that kids see, it's more like a massive coffin floating on the water.
The storytelling is beautifully done, and not complicated, the plot is pretty simple with added bits in, and the overall tone is more action film rather than biblical.
Emma play's Ila, an adopted daughter of Noah who is rescued after her family is killed in an attack by the other family (there's two sides, one believes creation is to be protected and respected, while the other to be used to their advantage). Ila is Baron due to her attack and when Noah is told of what he must do, his wife asks their grandfather for help believing that the human race should be allowed to continue, hence Ila becomes pregnant. This is new territory for Emma, and she did amazingly, her performance was convincingly real, to where i felt so upset for her, and the babies that thankfully were not taken.
Ila was not originally in the story, there are no women in the story of Noah so seeing this and knowing the director added her in along with Jennifer Connelly as Noah's wife was uplifting to see. The chemistry with Emma and Douglas Boothe was hot, they work really well together, as she did with Logan Lerman who also starred with Emma in the Perks of Been a Wallflower (2012).
Overall, Emma's performance was emotional, engaging and kept me on the edge of my seat.
