regression (2015)
For an Indepth look HERE.
I've had to watch this a few times over the years to fully understand what was going on. Ok, so Emma plays an abuse victim, who claims to have been sexually abused by her father, and says her grandmother is part of a satanic cult.
Now here is where it gets weird, each member of the family freak out and have visions claiming that what Angela says is true.
Emma's portrayal of Angela is stunning, she switches back and forth so easily its scary and you generally feel for this apparently poor girl who has gone through such an ordeal.
A cop (Ethan Hawke) and a physcologist played by David Thewlis (who you'll recognise as Professor Lupin in the Harry Potter series) tries a certain therapy called Regression therapy which causes these visions to appear. The therapy is said to help bring up buried trauma, lost memories ect. This practice is since been discredited in the field though it's still used today.
Angela is convinced of all this, and even shows scars where she was allegedly abused. However after the entire force is frightened into believing all this, and the grandmother is scared to the point of going out a window, the truth is finally revealed and it's a hell of a twist.
I do recommend that your over 15 to watch this due to it's themes, it's very dark, intriguing and will have you guessing all the way through.
